Inspired oxygen concentration will thus vary with the patient’s pattern of breathing. In contrast, high flow devices such as the Venturi face mask deliver oxygen at a rate in excess of the patient’s peak inspiratory flow rate, and allow for more precise titration of the inspired oxygen concentration.
